Biography

An aficionado of guitar based rock, producer/engineer Sally "Louder" Browder made a name for herself as “a rising star in punk production circles” (Alternative Press) during the explosion of Southern California punk rock in the early ’90s. From her work with Epitaph Records’ Ten Foot Pole and The Red Aunts, her forceful guitar tones and aggressive mixing style caught the ear of American punk icon Wayne Kramer, anarchic guitarist of MC5 fame, with whom she made three critically acclaimed solo albums.

Browder’s pivotal production and engineering on The Humpers’ last three records sealed her reputation as one of L.A.’s edgiest alternative/hard rock producers. Indie group Rocket From The Crypt enlisted her to engineer and mix their milestone EP Hot Charity, Exene Cervenka of legendary L.A. punk rockers X sought her out to produce her band Auntie Christ, and spastic punky blues rockers Claw Hammer utilized her talents on two of their finest releases.

As the ’90s drew to a close, the cross-fertilization of indie rock, country, world and folk music created new avenues for Browder both in the Americana and alt/country genres. Artists as diverse as The Silos, The Plimsouls, Eliades Ochoa and Dwight Yoakam discovered what MOJO magazine once described as her “knuckle punch” sound.

In the last several years she’s worked with legendary artists Willie Nelson, Flaco Jimenez, Eliades Ochoa, Dave Alvin and Joe Ely (on The I-10 Chronicles Parts I and II), and engineered and mixed albums for celtic rockers The Young Dubliners, 'Godfather of Punk' Curt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets), legendary guitarist Pete Anderson, and honky tonk star-in-the-making Moot Davis.

Whether recording live in the studio or blending organic loops and samples into a mix, Browder’s intuitive balance between rawness and finesse, her talent for capturing the essence of a band’s sound and her “no boundaries” approach to production has made her a lightning rod for a great variety of musicians eager to experiment with new sounds and ideas.
